Beauty
Who says? I know it’s going to sound really lame, but today while I was at Jingle Ball, I heard Selena Gomez perform the song “who says”. It was a nice song, but it really got me thinking.
Who does say we aren’t beautiful you know? I mean no one really comes up to you and says “you’re ugly” so why do girls have low self confidence? Why do we think we are unattractive if no one says we are? Then I came to the realization that it’s us, constantly comparing ourselves to other girls, other girls we want to be like. But then, why? Why do we compare ourselves to others? Well then I thought about competition. It seems to be a competition on who could get the most attention, who could be the prettiest and have any guy she wants? Have the most friends? Be the most “successful”? Like in the past when the prettiest and nicest girl got the husband who could provide the best, who could win?
But why?
My conclusion is a little outlandish but what if it has to do with Darwin and his theory of natural selection, where in this day and age its beauty or brains, and to be the best competitor you shud have both? But it seems like natural selection backfired, because of this competition, too many girls have too many insecurities, too many girls have eating problems, too many girls torture themselves, burning and bleaching hair, waxing, curling eye lashes.
Are we really competing to get better and more successful or are we turning to a more superficial society?
